36 international students from Saitama University enjoyed the Kimono dressing experience and various Japanese cultural demonstrations at Saitama WABI SABI Festival 2021 on Nov. 20 (Sat) and 21 (Sun).
Saitama WABI SABI Festival is an event to introduce traditional culture in Saitama Prefecture, which has been held at Omiya Park since 2017.
This time, we received an invitation from Saitama Prefectural Office to try on the Kimono for international students.
Nowadays, there are few opportunities to casually experience Japanese culture, such as traveling. They wore kimonos and strolled around the precincts of Hikawa Shrine and the event site, enjoying the unique atmosphere of Japan.
Comments from the Participants***
Basically, Japan is well-known around the world for its highly distinct culture, and it is a country where traditions have been passed down from generation to generation. I heard about kimono (Japanese traditional dress) when one of my teachers received his PhD from Iwate University in Japan. I had seen some absolutely stunning photographs. Then I consider wearing this dress if I have the opportunity to visit Japan. On November 20th, 2021, my wish comes true, and it was a fantastic event for me. I have a great time and like taking photos with my national and international friends in an authentic Japanese setting. Eventually we returned home with many happy and captivating memories that will never be forgotten. I am grateful to the Saitama University administration and organizing committee of this festival for allowing me to participate in this festival.

I was always thrilled to see the Kimono. I wondered when I would be able to wear it and see how I felt! Thanks to Saitama University for giving me such an opportunity. I enjoyed it. I hope to participate again in the future.

I had a lot of fun in WABI SABI Festival. Wearing Kimono is one of my dreams before studying in Japan. I really appreciate giving us a chance to participate in the Festival.
