During her annual Christmas address to her subjects and the world, Queen Elizabeth II spoke of the pain felt over the holidays by those who have lost a loved one, a pain she now personally experiences through the loss of her “beloved” Prince Philip.
Philip was a pivotal figure in the British Royal Family. He was the longest-serving consort to a monarch in British history, having been in the role for more than 60 years. The Queen — a deeply private person — once called him “her rock” in public.
Her Majesty also reflected on another difficult year brought about by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, praising the work of frontline healthcare workers and researchers who are working to fight the virus.
