In a year-end interview with The West Block’s Mercedes Stephenson, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau reflects on the pandemic’s impact on Canadians as the country faces another wave of the virus, sparked by the extremely transmissible Omicron variant.
Trudeau also looked back at the fall of Afghanistan to the Taliban, and Canada’s efforts to bring thousands of Afghan refugees to Canada.
The prime minister also spoke about sexual misconduct allegations in the Canadian military, the need for a culture change and the steps his government is taking to make that happen.
Finally, Trudeau discusses Canada’s position in the world, especially when it comes to our relationship with China. He also looks back on the release of the so-called “two Michaels”: Canadians Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig.
