In the U.S., several western states have been hit by winter storms, knocking out power for thousands of people and disrupting traffic on the road and in the air.
In Reno, Nevada white-out conditions led to a 20-car pile-up. Search crews were sent out to rescue people in their cars in California’s Sierra mountains.
In Seattle, snow and ice grounded nearly a third of flights.
Even sunny, southern California saw the snow, a first for many residents.
