Kane Tanaka, the world’s oldest living person, on Sunday 2nd January rang in her 119th birthday in Japan. She is also the oldest Japanese person ever. She celebrated the day with staff members at the nursing home where she lives in Fukuoka in Japan. Tanaka, the seventh of nine siblings, married when she was 19. She supported her family by running a noodle shop after her husband and eldest son went to fight in the Second China-Japanese War which started in 1937. Her husband died in 1993. Interestingly, Tanaka likes solving number puzzles and playing board games.
Japan has a large number of old people. The country has more than 85,000 people aged 100 or older. It was found that Japanese people live the longest compared to other countries. On average Japanese women live up to the age of 88 and men live up to the age of 81. In India, on average men live upto 67 years and women live up to 69 years. A healthy diet & regular physical activity are reasons why Japanese people live for so long.
