Canada has joined the U.S. and other allies in urging their citizens to leave Ukraine immediately, as top security officials now warn Russian forces are in position to invade at any moment.
“Since February 1, we have been urging Canadians to avoid all travel to Ukraine because of the ongoing Russian threats and the risk of armed conflict,” said Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly in a statement released Friday. “We have also been asking Canadians already in Ukraine to leave while commercial means are still available. Our highest priority remains the safety and security of Canadians,” she added.
