Some of the demonstrators in the so-called “Freedom Convoy” blockade in downtown Ottawa have been arrested with body armour and smoke grenades as a police push to end the convoy encounters with what officials describe as “assaultive” and “aggressive” behaviour by the crowds.
So far, police say they have arrested 47 people at the demonstration on Saturday, raising the number of vehicles towed since Friday to 38. Police say there have been 170 arrests total in their push to clear the blockade.
Since yesterday, 46 vehicles from the secure zone downtown have been removed, Ottawa police said Saturday. In addition, 22 licence plates have been seized and 11 Commercial Vehicle Operator Registrations in Ontario have been suspended.
