NEW YORK, Feb. 22 (Xinhua) — The U.S. dollar inched lower in late trading on Tuesday as geopolitical tensions over Ukraine escalated.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, was down 0.05 percent at 96.0250.
In late New York trading, the euro was up to 1.1338 U.S. dollars from 1.1325 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound was down to 1.3592 dollars from 1.3603 U.S. dollars in the previous session. The Australian dollar increased to 0.7221 U.S. dollar from 0.7195 dollar.
The U.S. dollar bought 115.08 Japanese yen, higher than 114.77 Japanese yen of the previous session. The U.S. dollar was up to 0.9211 Swiss franc from 0.9159 Swiss franc, and it rose to 1.2753 Canadian dollars from 1.2750 Canadian dollars.
The above market reactions came as traders nervously eyed updates concerning the ongoing Ukraine crisis.
