SEOUL, April 7 (Xinhua) — Olympic champion Chen Yufei and her compatriot Wang Zhiyi were ousted in the round of 16 at the BWF World Tour Korea Open on Thursday.
With Han Yue’s early exit on Tuesday, all of China’s women’s singles players were knocked out of the Korea Open.
Chen lost to South Korean Kim Ga-eun 21-17, 21-19, and Wang was outplayed by seventh seed Busanan Ongbamrungphan of Thailand 21-17, 17-21, 21-18.
Elsewhere in the women’s singles, second seed An Se-young from South Korea overwhelmed Singapore’s Yeo Jia Min 21-10, 21-10. India’s third seed Pusarla V Sindhu eased past Aya Ohori of Japan 21-15, 21-10.
In the men’s singles, China’s Weng Hongyang beat Malaysian Cheam June Wei 21-14, 17-21, 21-17. Third seed Indonesian Jonatan Christie defeated Kodai Naraoka of Japan 21-16, 21-11.
In the men’s doubles, India’s third seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy/ Chirag Shetty beat Singaporean pair Hee Yong Kai Terry/Loh Kean Hean 21-15, 21-19.
The match between second seeds Mohammad Ahsan/Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia and India’s Dhruv Kapila/M.R. Arjun ended as the Indian duo retired in the first set 8-5.
In the mixed doubles, China’s Ou Xuanyi and Huang Yaqiong edged out Indian duo Reddy B. Sumeeth and Ashwini Ponnappa 22-20,18-21,21-14 to secure a spot in the next round.
Malaysian pair Ong Yew Sin and Goh Liu Ying received a walkover as South Korea’s top seeds Seo Seung-jae and Chae Yu-jung withdrew.
In the women’s doubles, Thai pair Benyapa Aimsaard and Nuntakarn Aimsaard beat Malaysian duo Vivian Hoo and Lim Chiew Sien 21-10, 21-19.
