BANGKOK, May 21 (Xinhua) — Chinese men’s singles shuttler Li Shifeng advanced into the badminton Thailand Open final after a tight battle with Japan’s Kodai Naraoka here on Saturday.
Li took the first set in the semifinal 21-19 but had to call medical assistance in the second set which he lost 21-16. Li managed to keep an edge in the deciding set and won by 21-19. He will face Lee Zii Jia of Malaysia in the final.
In the women’s singles, Chen Yufei beat Sindhu Pusarla of India in two sets to set up the final meeting with Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei.
In mixed doubles, China’s Zheng Siwei/Huang Yaqiong toppled down Japanese duo Yuta Watanabe and Arisa Higashino to face home favorite Dechapol Puavaranukroh and Sapsiree Taerattanachai, who saw off Olympic champions Wang Yilyu/Huang Dongping of China.
The Chinese team will be absent in the women’s doubles as Zhang Shuxian and Zheng Yu lost to Japan’s Mayu Matsumoto and Wakana Nagahara in the semifinals. No Chinese shuttlers have qualified for the men’s doubles semifinals.
