Associate Professor Masato Hiwatari of the Faculty of Economics and Business at Hokkaido University was one of seven recipients in Japan of the Medal for the 30th Anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The award is conferred by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to individuals who have contributed to the development of Uzbekistan. The medal was presented by His Excellency Mr. Mukhsinkhuja Abdurakhmonov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Japan, on behalf of the President of Uzbekistan, in a ceremony held on December 5, 2021, at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Japan.
The award was conferred to Hiwatari in recognition of his research activities on regional society, economy and development in Uzbekistan, as well as his contribution to inter-university exchanges, acceptance of international students, and other events.
“Under the leadership of a new president, remarkable reforms have been taking place in Uzbekistan in all areas—including politics, society, economy, diplomacy, and education,” said Hiwatari. “I would like to continue to support Uzbekistan’s dynamic development so that it can be sustained in the future.”
